Sizing software for stationary applications

Saft has for a number of years produced a software 'WinSize' to help you quickly find the right battery for your standby application. It is based on the same software that is used internally within the Saft organization and will give an answer consistent with our own sizing. As well as automatically calculating from your data options from the wide range of Saft nickel-cadmium stationary batteries, it now allows you more control over the number of cells making up the battery and produces a battery layout showing the configuration of your chosen battery.

WinSize is designed to give you the maximum flexibility. It is easy to use and there is an extensive Help system that explains every feature of the program. Thus, after installation, you are up and running without any need for a user manual. Three battery sizing options are available: the UPS and Engine Starting options are application-specific sizing methods; and the IEEE option is a sizing method that conforms to the IEEE 1115 sizing recommendations. So Winsize will take your application parameters, calculate the battery, allow you to choose a stand, if required, and produces the layout of the battery including the dimensions. It even allows you to design a battery with different sizes of stand to suit your particular situation.

Please contact your nearest Saft contact, who will help you quickly find the right battery for your standby application and / or explain you this software.

Sizing software for Rail & mass transit applications

A nickel-cadmium battery offers inherently exceptional performance. But in order to obtain optimum performance from the battery, it must be correctly sized for the particular application.

Sizing criteria

To correctly size your battery, you should take into account the following factors:

  • The maximum charge voltage and the minimum discharge voltage acceptable at the equipment terminals and the tolerance.
  • The discharge profile in watts, amps or resistance and its duration.
  • The battery operating temperature.
  • Factors contributing to aging.
